MASH is a procedural effects built into Maya around 2016. It was originally created as a versatile motion design animations with procedural node networks. People began using it for much more. It’s development within Autodesk shows it as well. Now, it is equally used as a very capable scatterer.
In Maya 2018, it’s pretty integrated. There’s a Mash tab bar and a Mash drop down bar in the Animation/FX menus.
Once you create a Mash Network, you will get a MASH icon in the outliner and Mash tabs in the attribute editor. In the attribute editor, you can see you have a whole array of various nodes you can add.
There are a lot of different things you can do in Mash. The easiest way is to directly show you some of them.
